Step out of Baggies hostel and walk a few paces towards the beach, and you can’t miss the dominating profile of the British Airways i360 viewing tower that has been under construction over the last 2 years. The £46 million pound mega structure lays claim to being both the worlds tallest moving viewing platform and the world’s first vertical cable car.
Built on the shore at the much loved and frequently photographed former West Pier site, it is hoped that the i360 can bring regeneration to this spot of the seafront, after many years of uncertainty and deliberation on how to restore the West Pier site to it’s former glory.
Designed by the creators of the iconic London Eye, the i360 tower promises to lift tourists to the dizzying height of 450 ft in a circular glass pod, offering unparalleled views over the coastline, the south downs and out to the English channel.
In addition to the viewing platform experience, at it’s base will be a a beachside multi-purpose building housing a tearooms, function room and exhibition space with fantastic views out to sea.
We’ve been keenly watching the progress and are looking forward to it’s grand opening this Summer. If you want to take in Brighton in from an altogether brand new point-of-view, Baggies Backpackers hostel is very close – a mere hop, skip and a jump away, and we cant wait to see if we can spot the hostel from the air!Back to All posts.
